Growth through Innovation is the theme of the LG Innovation Festival.  What does Growth through Innovation mean to you?

What excites me most about the future of tech is the incredible potential it holds for both personal and societal transformation. Transparent displays, projection holograms, and immersive technologies promise to reshape the way we work and connect, making the dream of working from anywhere a reality. This is an exciting prospect that can enhance flexibility and foster human connections across vast distances.

However, what truly ignites my optimism is the prospect of technology being harnessed for the greater good. Innovation has the power to address pressing global issues such as equitable access to clean water, healthy food, and quality education. Growth through Innovation, to me, means using technology as a force for positive change rather than a tool of division or exclusion.

I firmly believe that the marriage of the design thinking framework with cutting-edge innovation technology is a formidable combination that can unravel complex challenges. This alliance has the potential to infuse more empathy, inclusivity, and human-centered values into the heart of innovation. It's about bringing together diverse perspectives on a global scale to create adaptable, equitable, and resilient solutions.

I envision a future where Growth through Innovation isn't just a buzzword but a living reality, where technology is wielded as a force for positive change. It's a future driven by empathy, collaboration, and a shared commitment to addressing global crises effectively and sustainably. I'm excited to be part of this journey towards a brighter, more connected, and more equitable world through the transformative power of innovation.

    Insightful | Hopeful | Industrious

Tell us what excites you about your session.

I'm incredibly excited to be a part of this panel discussion because it delves into an area that I'm deeply passionate about: the symbiotic relationship between corporate incubators and startups. Over the course of my career, I've had the privilege of being at the epicenter of this dynamic interplay from every player's perspective. I've seen firsthand how a well-structured corporate incubator can serve as a crucible for innovation, providing startups with fantastic growth opportunities and market access.

What truly excites me is the role of the founder in this ecosystem. Corporate incubators offer a unique platform where visionary founders can accelerate their journey from ideation to market integration. The mentorship, scale motions and networking opportunities are unparalleled, often serving as a catalyst for startups to overcome hurdles that would otherwise take years to navigate.

Moreover, the collaboration between established corporations and agile startups is a two-way street. While startups gain from the corporate infrastructure and market insights, corporations benefit from the fresh perspectives and disruptive technologies that startups bring to the table. It's a win-win scenario that I believe is crucial for the future of innovation. I look forward to sharing practical insights and actionable strategies that can help both corporations and startups forge fruitful collaborations and drive mutual growth.

Growth through Innovation is the theme of the LG Innovation Festival.  What does Growth through Innovation mean to you? What excites you about the future of tech?

To me, "Growth through Innovation" is not just a catchphrase; it's a fundamental business philosophy that serves as the backbone of sustainable, long-term success. It's akin to the concept of "creative destruction" coined by economist Joseph Schumpeter, where new innovations disrupt existing frameworks to pave the way for progress. It means continually pushing the envelope, and exploring uncharted territories in technology to develop products and solutions that not only meet market needs but also anticipate future demands.

Growth through Innovation is a multi-dimensional approach that goes beyond mere technological advancements. It encompasses organizational culture, fostering an environment where every team member—from developers to marketers—feels empowered to think outside the box in a true product owner or startup founder mentality. It's about creating a virtuous cycle where innovation fuels growth, which in turn provides the resources and impetus for further innovation.

What truly electrifies me about the future of tech is its role as an accelerant in a founder-driven world. We're entering an era where technological leaps—from AI to quantum computing—are not ends in themselves but means to amplify a founder's vision. Imagine the potential when a founder's ingenuity in healthcare meets the computational power of AI, leading to groundbreaking personalized treatments. Or consider the impact when a founder focused on sustainability leverages IoT to create smart, eco-friendly cities.

The future isn't just about what technology can do; it's about what a founder can do with that technology. And the most exciting part? This is a global phenomenon. The democratization of technology means that the next visionary founder could emerge from anywhere—be it a co-working space in Seattle or a startup incubator in Nairobi.

    BIO

With a career spanning 17 years, I specialize in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, particularly within Microsoft. As the Principal Program Manager for Microsoft's Incubation Studio, I operate within the Office of the CTO, focusing on Horizon 3 (H3) initiatives—essentially the long-term, disruptive innovations. My role involves designing and spearheading programs, initiatives, and partnerships that facilitate the growth of emerging products and businesses across the company.

My background is a rich tapestry of roles and skills. I've been a full-stack developer, an educator, an entrepreneur, and a venture builder. This diverse experience equips me with a unique blend of strategic, operational, and marketing acumen, which I bring to highly technical product teams and startups.

I'm also an active mentor and investor in the early-stage B2B SaaS and agency space. I collaborate with various platforms and networks, including Conduit Venture Labs, Fizzy Ventures, Founder Institute, Round, Microsoft for Startups, Forum Ventures, and Venture Out Seattle. My passion lies in connecting with individuals who are leveraging technology to tackle complex, intriguing problems. If you're one of these innovators, I'm always open to connecting and learning more.

    Healthcare-Visionary | Data-Passionate | Trust-Advocate

Tell us what excites you about your session.

I am thrilled to be participating in this exciting session on Exploring Transformative Solutions for Digital Health. There are many innovative opportunities in digital health, but the ones I am most excited about right now are those with the potential to truly disrupt the traditional episodic care model. This is driven by explosive growth in generative AI and monitoring technologies, including wearables and passive sensing. With more data, we can paint a much better longitudinal view of an individual’s health and the management of disease. I see huge potential at the intersection of healthcare and the smart home. Everything, from helping monitor a parent with diabetes from hundreds of miles away to facilitating dialysis from the comfort of your own bedroom.

Growth through Innovation is the theme of the LG Innovation Festival.  What does Growth through Innovation mean to you? What excites you about the future of tech?

Growth through innovation, in my view, is a journey that can be undertaken by an individual company or an entire industry. When aiming for true transformation, we can take incremental innovative steps that deliver tangible value at each stage and address current market needs. This consideration holds particular importance in healthcare, an industry known for its slower adoption of change. For instance, a near-term innovation could offer valuable time-saving solutions for burnout-afflicted care providers.

Currently, what excites me (and I assume many others) about the future of technology is the rapid advancement of AI. The potential applications in healthcare and digital health appear immensely promising. However, I am also aware that along with these opportunities come challenges and risks related to health data and trust. This is where standards, transparency, and industry alignment play crucial roles. Over time, with the right industry support, AI can assume a pivotal role in aiding diagnostic and treatment decisions.

He also chairs the Steering Committee for the Connectivity Standards Alliance’s Health and Wellness Working Group. CSA is the group behind the new Matter smart home standard. He is a staunch advocate for the emerging opportunities for healthcare in the home through the advancement of monitoring technologies and artificial intelligence.

Tech Giants like Uber, Facebook, and Airbnb are introducing Behavioral Scientists into their teams because they are realizing that our existing models of how to understand and influence human decision making are incomplete. As we look to the future we need to combine our learnings from Behavioral Science with Data Science and AI to create a more complete map of how to influence behavior for good. This will ultimately allow tech companies to build habit forming products that will help people live healthier, happier & wealthier lives.
